Get To Know Open This Way

Tell us about how you began OTW and the vision for it?

Before OTW came into being, we had both been working in the digital marketing space for 2-3 years. During this course, we recognised a big gap in the digital marketing space that was yet to be tapped - a gap for creative digital marketing where brand identity building and content creation played an equally important part as numbers do, towards the growth of brands. An on-going love for fashion and a newfound appreciation for story-telling in social media paved the way for Open This Way. Our aim was to find newer brands in the Indian market who were trying to find their footing in social media. We recognised that working with young brands not only gave so much room to experiment with content and ideas but also allowed for us to grow arm-in-arm.

What kind of work do you do and what types of brands do you handle?

Everything social media! We look into building a digital space for brands, right from creating visual content, to marketing it. We are currently working largely with homegrown fashion, jewellery and home brands.

What is your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part of working in social media is that it keeps you on your toes all the time. Everyday is a new challenge, a new opportunity which makes the work so much more exciting.

What is your role at OTW?

I am the co-founder and run the ship alongside the best work partner. Amongst other things, I’m also the (self-proclaimed) queen of grids!

What is your relationship with fashion? What would you say your style is?

It has taken me a few years of experimentation and some choices that I regret (hint: platform wedge heels), to build a relationship with fashion. Being short, about 4’10”, clothing was always a struggle but has also made me accept my body and embrace that height after a lot of trial and error. My personal style is a balance of comfort and clothing that makes me feel confident. I am a sucker for blazers and jeans, midi dresses and sneakers, lots of sneakers.

Why do you think conscious fashion is important?

I have, and still am guilty of not choosing conscious fashion on an everyday basis. However, over the last few years I have tried to expand my wardrobe beyond fast fashion and bring in conscious clothing every now and then. And I realized that somehow, I always gravitate towards those pieces a lot more because of just how special they feel. Every time I have purchased from a conscious brand, it was a process of decision-making which brought so much more value to that piece. I feel this is why conscious fashion is important. It is not just clothes, but so much more. Each piece brings a story, has so much more value and is clothing that is improving lives along the way, from production to consumption.

What is your favourite Rengé piece and why?

I’ve had my eye on the Lima dress since forever. It's the perfect dress-up or dress-down dress.

What do you like most about working with Rengé?

I love the warm and welcoming environment that each member of the Rengé team has built. Working with Rengé feels like you’re a part of a happy, close-knit family with so so many dogs (woohoo).

What is your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part has to be getting to create unique identities for various homegrown brands. And of course, never complaining about working with beautiful clothing and accessories!

What is your role at OTW?

As a co-founder of OTW, I look into day-to-day operations of the company with the best work wife. But what I truly love to work on is visual graphics and content for Social Media.

What is your relationship with fashion?

What would you say your style is? I’m a complete creature of comfort! From easy coordinated sets to easy printed separates, and sneakers that I can live in to flat sandals to just slip into – I love anything that I can move around in. Not gonna lie though, I do love myself a classic slip dress or beautifully tailored blazer too! I mostly love to just have fun with fashion and am open to experimenting with new styles, as long as I feel absolutely at ease in it.

Why do you think conscious fashion is important?

Conscious fashion has now become a necessity. It’s better for the planet, for its people - simply the better choice. And besides being better for the environment, conscious clothing lasts for years, making it almost like an investment that you can keep coming back to. It’s definitely not the easiest shift, but with pre-loved clothing, environment friendly materials and production methods coming into play, it can be simpler than we’d imagine it to be.

What is your favourite Rengé piece and why?

Ah, this is a tough one! But it would have to be the lemon Manila dress. It’s a beautiful shade of yellow with embroidered flowers all over - what’s not to love. Almost like a little piece of sunshine.
